How to Cook Quinoa
If you’re looking for a rice substitute, then quinoa is it! It’s a complete protein that is very easy to digest and prepare. Quinoa cooks up light and fluffy in about 20 minutes. Check out the video to find out my tips and tricks to make it more nutritious and taste fantastic!
Hi Kristin,
I was so blessed and encouraged when we had our phone appointment. I do have some questions. In Doug’s books he talks about sausage and bacon.. what kind and where to get it? Also you mentioned organic pepperoni and yogart cheese… what kind and where do you buy them? I’m excited and am stocking up the kitchen. Thanks for allowing God to use you in so many of our lives. Looking forward to better health!

Hi Yuvonne, I thoroughly enjoyed it as well! I personally do not eat pork. I also try to get the best quality animal products I can afford, organic and grass-fed if possible. I normally buy my meat at local health food stores. You can also search online, there are lots of options. Tropical Traditions carries grass-fed organic meat and dairy products, click here. I love turkey bacon and my favorite “pepperoni” is Organic Prarie beef summer sausage. It’s to die for!!
Limit dairy if following Phase 1. Yogurt cheese can be found at health food stores, but I haven’t found organic. If you are cooking with it you’ll kill the probiotics anyway, so just look for a good quality organic cheese for an occasional treat… if dairy works for you. I recommend taking it out of the diet for a period of time and then slowly adding it back in and see how your body reacts.
I enjoy Qunioa almost everyday for breakfast..it is great with butter and a touch of salt or with an easy over fried egg on top…I always feel like I just did my body good after I eat it…lol I enjoy your segments on Know the Cause..I watch every show…I learn SO much..thanks to you..Doug and Kyle..
I love quinoa. I have a husband that feels a meal is not complete without pasta, bread, or rice. He loves quinoa too. I am so happy to have this option it makes cooking for the family easier. I cook mine in a rice cooker with the same water/quiona ratio as rice. 2 cups water/1 cup quinoa.
Would quinoa do okay in a slowcooker or crockpot recipe?
I have learned so much with you. You are doing a great job. Thank you!
I love quinoa as a rice and a pasta substitute cooked in chicken broth. I also make the quinoa flakes with almond milk as a hot breakfast cereal and it’s delicious. Thanks for the great info Kristin!!
Thanks so much Chris, Dar and Crystal…. and yes Crystal, I am sooo proud of you! Hugs, Kristin
I see that some people soak nuts (almonds)before making milk or eating them. They noted that soaking brings out the enzymes in them. What do you say?
Great question! I’ve actually done extensive research into this because it just didn’t make sense to me that God would put something toxic into a food He put here for us to eat.
Eliminating phytic acid is one of the main reasons people soak beans, grains, nuts and seeds. Phytic acid is looked at as bad because it makes some nutrients less absorbable to us. But what if God put it there to protect us? Phytic acid has tremendous cancer fighting properties. Blocking some minerals some of the time isn’t a bad thing. Too much iron = cancer. Too little iron = anemia. Somehow, a balanced diet of whole foods balances all of it out.
If you want to do more research on the health properties of phytic acid google “IP6 health benefits”. IP6 is a another name for phytic acid. Phytic acid is actually a potent anti-cancer component! Be weary when you read about an isolated nutrient being detrimental to our health. God created things to work together perfectly in unison.
Do I think soaking nuts, seeds, etc is bad? No, but I don’t think it is really necessary…. and who has time for that anyway? It’s hard enough to get a healthy meal on the table without remembering to soak things hours or even days before we eat them! All these details in my opinion is what prevents people from eating healthy, it’s just too overwhelming. So, that’s my two cents for what it’s worth. Thanks Pamela!
Thanks Kristin! I just made a quinoa salad yesterday! Aren’t you so proud of me?! I will have to try cooking it in veggie broth! Thanks!
I could not find the button for text
therefore did not get the info
