Meet Kristin
Eating with Purpose was born out of my own struggles with multiplying health issues and my relationship with food. I have learned invaluable information over the years to overcome numerous issues, and my passion is to share this info to help as many people as possible. I’ve worked with Doug Kaufmann’s TV show Know the Cause conducting nutrition segments, nationwide phone consultations and writing for the monthly “Know This!” newsletter. I have also done radio spots on both Kyle Drew’s SuperHealth and Martie Whittekin’s RadioMartie shows. I absolutely love cooking and creating new and delicious recipes!
I understand that most people know that it is important to eat healthy, but they are often confused and overwhelmed with how to make that a reality in their own lives. I believe extraordinary health starts in the kitchen and teach people how to make it fun and simple.
I eat the Phase 1, 2, & 3 Lifestyle year-round, making it a lifestyle for me and my family. I practice what I preach, so I understand the daily obstacles the average person faces. I use my own struggles and experiences to help others (instead of just theories and text-book philosophy), making my program realistic and attainable.
I provide the knowledge and tools that clients need to be successful; however, the client is ultimately responsible for their success. It takes determination and discipline, but transformation and permanent change is achievable.
I am a culinary graduate of the Nutrition Therapy Institute in Denver, Colorado and I also hold a bachelor’s degree in Hospitality, Retail, & Sports Administration from the University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC.
I know how extremely difficult it is to overcome health and weight issues, but I am living proof that it IS possible!
Love seeing you on know the cause, Kristin…I’ve learned so much from you and Doug and Kyle. I seem to continue to learn something new every time…..thank you for educating me in so many ways!
I am having difficulty finding liquid stevia without fillers/maltodextrin, alcohol etc. I have tried powdered stevia and thought it was terrible. I have not had sugar in my diet for probably 4 months now and it would just be nice to have a good tasting replacement for cane sugar that will not put weight back that I have already discarded (by faith, never to return-21# at this time and 12 more to go). Praise The Lord!
I want to implement your recipe for pumpkin/pecan pie and I need your help in finding the purest liquid stevia without the bitterness. Can you help me?
Thank you. Betty
Hi Kristin,
So happy I found your website. You are such a lovely lady and so pretty. I watch KTC every day and have learned a lot. Keep up the good work for all of us.
You should bring a picture of your family on KTC so we all can see your lovely family.
I have a couple of questions now that I found you.
Is there a coffee and chocolate substitute?
How do we wash our fruits and vegetables to be sure they are free of any pestisides.
thanks again for all your help.
May God Richly Bless for all you do.
Hi Kristin,
Love when your on Know the Cause, wondering if you will be coming out with a children’s book of recipe’s. I think this would be a great seller and much needed book for moms and dads. Thank you, Katrina
Hi, where can I find your buckwheat pancake recipe that I saw on KTC TV program today. I couldn’t find it on their or your website.
Thank you in advance
hello Kristin!
I love how you are helping people and your story is so encouraging. I am starting a blog and wanted to know if I can create a link to your website for your recipes that have really helped me so much. I have never had a weight problem but I have had 4 sinus surgeries and facing the possibility of a 5th. I have injested over 100 courses of antibiotics and it had, for many years destroyed my health. I found Doug Kaufmann years ago and learned the link between fungus and chronic infection. Sure enough during a surgery they cultured curvalaria (fungus) as well as bacteria. So my journey began. I am 75% better but that is only because I probably only stick to the diet 75%. I am a recovering sugar addict and therefore I fall off at times
I, like you am going to help people through my story. God lets us go through difficulties for a reason. I think I have found my reason. Thanks for your inspiration and let me know how I can promote you and your website that has helped me so much.
Thank you,
Erin
I only discovered Know The Cause around Jan/Feb 2014 and have learned a great deal listening to Doug, Kyle, and you and all the others on the show.
Love what you do! Where do I find Live Salsa? I think that’s what it was called.
Hi Kristin,
After searching, as much as I know how, on KTC, trying to find the challenge you spoke of on 1/1/15 and not finding it, I called and talked twice to KTC’s personnel to learn that was a 2012 show thrown in. Is there a way, I can view the challenge and recipes shown for the 3 meals in that segment? Oh how I searched, but without results. Could you write me the challenge and point me to where the recipes are? Thank you, Blessings
Kristen,
You are such a blessing!! Wanted to know why you never use erythritol in your recipes? It is way easier to digest than xylitol with no side affects and sooooo much easier to use than mixing stevia and xylitol. The molecule is too large to be absorbed into the gut so it completely by-passes it. We only by the non-GMO kind and I use it to make all our desserts. We’ve been doing this for years as my husband is diabetic and we wanted an alternate sweet treat source. We did start out using xylitol and then switched to erythritol. I have created many recipes and would love to share with you. We only eat organic foods. I have Lupus and when I discovered Know the Cause 1 year and 8 months ago I gave up grains completely and we were able to switch over to almond flour and coconut flour. I also have a chocolate source that I use that is sweetened with erithritol and inulin fiber…it’s called Choco-perfection. I chop up the chocolate and make chocolate chip cookies with the almond flour and pasture butter and erythritol. They are sooo delicious. Look online for those candy bars. I also melt them down and make nut clusters and chocolate mint candies, and “Nestle Crunch” bars with a tiny bit of rice cereal, and nut butter cups with the cashew butter. Thank you for all your experimenting and bringing us wonderful recipes. We are kindred spirits. Love, Jennifer
Is Simply Organic brand spices one of the best for us. Please give us other good brands.
Thanks!
Checked ingredients in Simply Organic vanilla flavoring. One bottle had alcohol. Another had glycerin, no alcohol. Which would be best on health?
God Bless
Ann
What do you think about garcinia cambogia with Dougs diet? Is it safe?
I just made Kristin’s chewy chocolate cookies. I used almond flour instead of buckwheat(not my favorite) and they are amazing!! I am a sugar addict and just found out I have been invaded with Candida so I am desperately trying to find something to feed my sweet tooth. I figured out the nutrition information (Not pure science but close enough) based on 24 cookies and thought I would share:
Serving: 1 cookie 75 Calories
Total Fat 6.625 gm
Saturated fat 0.50 gm
Trans fat 0.0 gm
Protein – 2.4 gm
In the mix you have the following:
Total Fat 159 gm of fat
Sat 12 gm
Trans fat 0 gm
Protein 54 gm
Depending on how many cookies you get from the mix will depend on the nutrient value of each cookie.
I rounded up or down so the per cookie results are an estimate.
I have made these cookies also and they are delicious. Thank you for sharing the nutritional info.
Kristin. I am trying to get some information about high blood calcium & fungus. I thought I heard something on the KTC TV program about cca++ killing fungus. May that explain why parathyroids go hyper? Can’t find anything on KTC website. Can you help me or send me to someone who can? Thank you.
Kristin,
Love seeing you on KTC. I have been using KAL liquid stevia, a brand you recommend. I went to purchase a second bottle and now it has maltodextrin listed in the ingredients. Can you recommend another brand, what a disappointment
Hi Kristin. Thanks for your answers to my questions. It helps me to understand. I have removed sugar from my diet except for some fruits. I have a peach tree that produces wonderful peaches and have a hard time not wanting to eat them and thank God for them at the same time.
I agree with you about the bread – don’t eat bread anymore but having a hard time giving up tortillas (not corn, flour). I do so want to lose wt and can be very disciplined if I understand that there is an ugly fungus living inside of me that I must get rid of to do so. I want to be a success story. I do a lot of exercising and I don’t care how much you sweat, if your diet isn’t right, it won’t do any good. I went to shop.eatingwithpurpose.com and nothing comes up. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks for your answering and your inspiration to me to keep trying.
Naomi
Hi Kristin
I don’t understand why God made grapefruits but not bananas. Some things that are said on the show (KTC) just don’t make sense to me.
Yeast makes bread rise BEFORE it is put in the oven but the spores are killed in the baking of the bread (at 350 degrees and higher) so there is no active yeast in the bread we eat. Doug seems to think it’s still active and working in our bodies AFTER it’s baked. Makes no sense.
Doug talks about the “book of Moses” ????? If he means Leviticus, why doesn’t he say that???
I’m like you in that I’ve been trying to be VERY healthy and that means no fat in the middle of my body. I’ve tried everything – unlike you possibly, I’ve tried excessive exercise and thinking I’m eating healthy, but realize from the show, I’m not eating the right foods that will cause me to lose weight.
It is really hard, I find, to stick to the Phase one diet every day (now and forever). Just not enough variety.
I like ALL of the food God made and have a hard time totally eliminating some of them.
You are encouraging to me – you were around 200 # like me – solid, very energetic but still fat. I swim 30 laps in the pool every other day and have energy to do more. You would think I’d be a little more slender. Very discouraging.
Naomi
Hi Naomi! God made all fruits and veggies. Some man has messed up and some are wise to remove from the diet until the fungus is eradicated and health is regained, then they nourish your body instead of feed the fungus.
Doug, as well as I believe that the yeast reactivates once ingested. I did an experiment on myself and added a gluten-free bread back into my diet for 4 months and changed nothing else. Within 4 months I had gained 15 pounds and felt miserable. I personally do not react well to yeast. I’ve seen similar results with my clients as well. I stay away from it!
There is actually tons of variety on Phase 1. The possibilities are endless. I work with people one-on-one to help expand their menus so they can make healthy eating a lifestyle rather than just another diet. You can sign up at shop.eatingwithpurpose.com if you’re interested. Blessings, Kristin
I was wondering if taking Bios Life Slim would work with Doug Kaufman’s Phase 1 Diet Plan ?
Hello Kristin, first-time emailer & internet user of your website. Since April completely changed diet & exercise regiment. Proud to have lost 27 lbs & counting. My doctors say I have heart disease, high blood pressure, obesity. As my weight declines hopefully the aforementioned will be in my distant past. It is my hope that your Almond Milk recipe & others will keep me on the right path. I am so grateful for your website and the info it provides it so healthful. Have no viewed KTC tv program but look forward to doing so. Thanks again for your expertise.
Congratulations Dorthy on taking your health into your own hands and making a change! So proud of you!! Hugs, Kristin
Hi,
I like to eat Buckwheat pancakes with blueberries in the morning, but is this on Phase I. If not, give me an idea of what to start the day with. I am not a big breakfast eater. (I juice and drink fresh juice the first thing in the morning). Also, fresh garden foods are very plentiful in the county, but are all of these veggies free of a lot of sugar (lima beans, etc.)
I appreciate you so much and need help from the people in the know. Thank you and I look forward to seeing you on Know the Cause, which I watch each night. I will try to get a picture to send soon. It’s always good to see the person you’re conversing with on line.
Sue Bishop
Hi Sue! Buckwheat pancakes are fabulous as long as they are made from 100% buckwheat with no wheat flour added. Love that you are eating lots of fresh foods and juicing! You’re doing a great job!! Blessings
While doing Phase 1 diet what can you eat for protein if you don’t eat meat?
There are many options since foods works together to create a complete protein even if they themselves are not a complete protein. But my favorite vegetarian complete proteins are quinoa, buckwheat and amaranth. All 3 come in many forms to be used in a wide variety of ways in the diet.
I watch know The Cause I even DVR the programs, I am really confused with Doug’s cook books, they need to state if they are Phase 1 or 2, at the beginning of them, also our your recipes mainly Phase one?
Love watching your segments on Doug’s program
My recipes state if they are Phase 1 in the notes section. I have many Phase 1 recipes while concentrating on a whole foods diet.
I cant find the answer on the internet but are maitake mushroom mycelia, reishi mushroom mycelia, and shiitake mushroom mycelia fungal? I was looking at gummy vitamins for my kids and saw this listed and wasnt sure if I should buy this or not. Thanks! Love all your info!!
Just like there are good bacteria and bad bacteria, I believe there are beneficial mushrooms and poisonous mushrooms. In my opinion medicinal mushrooms are a superfood. Great question Kelly!
Whoa, things just got a whole lot eaiser.
Hi Kristen, I’m so glad you are now on KTC! We needed a woman on there – lol! Now I’ve just found your wonderful website! Thanks for sharing your passion with all of us!
I do have one question which I’ve been unable to find the answer anywhere. I’m wondering about green vs red apples on the anti-fungal diet. Why are red apples never recommend? And with the green apples, why without the skin? If you can help with this i’d really appreciate it, my trainer recommends red apples – go figure!
Thanks again and many blessings!
This is a very popular question Sherrie! A few years ago I wrote an article for the “Know the Cause” newsletter on this topic. I did extensive research into the differences between green and red apples. I need to simplify the article a bit and post it in my article section here at EWP for all that are interested.
The short answer to the question is that both green and red apples are fantastic and I recommend eating both. Eat whichever you enjoy! It is a myth that green apples have less sugar than red. The truth is that green apples have more malic acid, which gives the green apple a tarter taste, therefore giving the impression that it has less sugar. Malic acid is a potent anti-fungal therefore fantastic for Phase 1.
I recommend organic apples with the peel. The peel is one of the most nutrient dense components of a apple. Non-organic apples are very concentrated in pecticides and chemical wax preservatives. So this is one item that is worth spending the extra money to get organic.
Hope this helps Sherrie. Thanks for your sweet comments!
Hi Kristin,
On Know The Cause today you mentioned that dried onion soup contains
corn.I use it in my meatloaf. What would be an alternative?
Thank you,
CA
Hi Kristin – I work with your sister in Charlotte and she recommended your page to me! I have a passion for healthy food and practice a vegetarian and sometimes vegan lifestyle! I am currently following Kimberly Snyder, Margaux J Rathbun, and Mimi Kirk but I’m excited to begin reading your blog and adding to my food knowledge and living a more whole and healthy lifestyle!
Thanks for stopping by Laura! I hope you find some helpful information here. Give my sister a big hug for me!!

Hi Bianca, I’m sorry I’m not aware of any docs in your area. If you are looking for nutrition help I do take a few clients a month. You can check it out here or sign up here. I’d love to help in any way I can!
Kristin,
Which degree did you get from The Nutritional Institute of Denver? Just curious, I am reviewing the program.
Thanks and God Bless!!
Hi Ann! I did the Natural Food Chef Program at NTI. It was amazing, in fact I was just telling my husband tonight how thankful I was that I had the opportunity to attend, and I graduated back in 2008! What drew me to that program was it provided me the best of both worlds, a toned down nutritionist degree along with a chef degree. So I was able to put what I was learning to practical use. That has been my passion, to bridge the gap between people knowing what to eat and how to actually make it taste amazing and incorporate it into their busy lives. Keep me posted if you decide to go! Hugs, Kristin

Thank you and God bless.

can you tell me what name brand stainless & enamel coated pots & pans you recommend?
GOD BLESS,
Thanks Ann! My favorite cookware is Chantal’s Copper Fusion line. Love it!!
I am glad to get “Kristin’s Eating with purpose.” For some reason it has not been in my e-mails. I really enjoy getting the info you give in your Eating with purpose and when you are on Know The Cause.
Hi Kristin, I have been watching know the cause for several years and have been educated through Doug’s show, God bless this man for all his knowledge that he has shared. My question is that i have the Hep c virus and doctors have said possible cirrhosis. I have done ct scans and feel terrible after the procedure, next doctors want a MRI but opted out because of the risks of kidney failure. I have chosen the homeopathic way instead of medical. I detoxed with coffee enemas and cod oil packs, eating as healthy as I can afford. After I detoxed i lost weight(about 10 lbs) but would like to gain some weight because I am underweight. Can you suggest how I can put on weight the healthy way, what kind of foods can I eat that will not affect my liver. I know the liver can rejuvenate and that is what my goal is rather than get chemo or other treatments that are so harsh.I am trusting and believing God first, along with the protocol I am on. Blessings to you
Hi Eva, I’m obviously not a doctor and can’t give any medical advice, but if I was needing to gain weight I would use whole foods like avocado, coconut, especially coconut oil, nut/seeds, etc. Calorie dense whole foods are my first pick.
Now for those of you reading this that need to lose weight I would recommend the very same foods, just in smaller portions. The body is amazing at adapting to what it needs, we just need to use the foods God put here to help it along.
Kristin, I have enjoyed your segments on Know the Cause, a program that I have watched for over 4 years and have appreciated positive changes in my health. Currently, my husband, who until 2 years ago, was a very healthy, physically fit man who had always been careful of his diet. At almost 70 years old, he began a slow memory decline worsened by a near heat stroke one year ago. Soon after that experience, he also began having Parkinson’s like symptoms, without tremors; bent forward posture, shuffling while walking…and increasing dementia, which increased remarkedly during a very recent trip to see our granddaughters. He has been on Prevagen for almost a year. Aside from being very faithful to the Phase One Diet, are there any specific things you might suggest? This is a man gifted with a genius IQ, near photographic memory, holds masters degrees and lifetime teaching credentials. It has been so sad to see this mental decline and loss of his physical skills, as well. Thank you so much. Pam
Hi Pamela! Check out this video, http://www.cbn.com/tv/1472017228001 on coconut oil improving mental decline. Your husband is blessed to have such a caring wife. I pray this blesses you both. Keep us posted. Much Love, Kristin
